So here's what I'm thinking.

We have a lot of young new voters who are very enthused by BO.

Idea #1.  Re-instate the draft.  That will (should) get them out in the streets in droves (the way we older folks were during Nam)  They could help bring an end to war in the ME if they have the numbers.  They would need to really get out there and take the power and take risks and do it for more than one or two days.

Idea #2.  Encourage the supers to choose HC as the nominee.  That would (hopefully) bring out the same youths, angry as hell, and it would force the dem party to change it's way of doing bidness, while also recanting their way of choosing the nominee.  So if BO has the popular vote, he gets the nomination, and maybe we get rid of this archaic electoral college and nominating procedure.

We will not have the power- (I agree with Huron and dog) until/unless the youth of this country stand up and scream and march or even do more.   I'm not sure even this would work, but it's time for them to work enmasse to make it true that "you have the power."

Voting is no longer enuf.  We've learned that.

"So?"

darth cheney  (the people are fungible and expendable)

Tom Alderman

The New York Times on Obama and Deval -- Assume Nothing, Question Everything

Posted March 27, 2008 | 08:17 PM (EST)

...

critical thinking, the ability to see an advertisement, hear a presentation, read a news story with a questioning eye on what's behind the claims being made, who are the sources, who benefits, who does not, what's the context, what are the implications of the story -- in other words -- the Colbert truthiness of it all.

The venerable NYT runs a front page, above the fold, story about Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick's problems in his first two years in office. It's a legitimate evaluative survey for every governor of any state. And every governor has to go through it -- in their state's newspapers.

But this story is in a national paper from New York, not Massachusetts. If critical thinking is applied, there are some reasonable questions to ask. Why this governor? Why now? Why on the front page of this most powerful national newspaper?

...

Why now? The implied logic and conclusion seems clear - guilt by similarity. Deval is Obama. Obama is all new, change and eloquence with questionable governing skills. Oh, and he's black Really?

Critical question: Why did the editors chose this governor to compare with Obama? Why not compare Obama with Vermont Governor Timothy Kaine? He's a newbie Governor in a state that hasn't elected a Democrat since 1964. He was all about change. He's also an Obama supporter. Why not him?

If you take anything from my diary I hope its this. Clinton supporters are deeply hurt. No matter what you think about Clinton, her supporters are good people. They're on our side, and they're hurt.

As it starts to sink in that this is over (and it is), Clinton's supporters are going to be deeply pained. We don't need to pile on. These are our friends. They really are, even if they look like bitter enemies right now. Lets stop hurting our friends, please. We've won.

I spent the afternoon with a 75 year old Republican woman who thinks the country is off track and will vote for Obama, to cancel out those Democratic women who would flip the Supreme Court and decades of their effort. they will come to their senses, but I too felt the hurt from one of our Hillary gender based supporters yesterday much like the diary

here in Iowa we have lots of experience backing candidates that later drop out so most take one loss or another gracefully with a grain of salt

Krazy Glue Moments

The Bosnia flap undermined Mrs. Clinton’s case for experience at a moment when she is desperately trying to convince her party’s superdelegates that she is the only Democrat who can win. Perhaps worse, though, the controversy played perfectly into an anti-Clinton narrative that Mr. Obama has peddled — namely, that Clintons, both of them, will say or do anything to win. (Exit polls from the Mississippi primary showed that half the voters questioned Mrs. Clinton’s integrity.) Even should she manage to snatch the nomination away at this late date, she can expect to run up against that same indictment from Mr. McCain in the fall, along with ads repeating her statements about Bosnia and the non-existent snipers. In other words, that one could be hard to unstick.

From Americablog

You'll recall that the media declared Hillary the winner of Texas before it was actually over. Texas had a primary and a caucus, and Hillary only won the primary. The winner of Texas is decided by adding the delegates from both the primary and the caucus. Come this weekend, we should find out that Obama really won Texas. A NY Daily News reporter accidentally got invited to a private conference call Bill Clinton was holding today with Texas delegates. Seems the campaign is terrified that people may finally figure out this weekend that Hillary lost Texas.

Reyes FISA Forum: "Both Sides are Angry"

...Democracy For America, a liberal political organization, attempted to pressure Reyes to drop his support of offering immunity to telecommunications companies, but he said that the campaign amounted to only about 40 phone calls to his office about the issue. He said he has had opposition from both ends of the ideological spectrum for his work on the bill.

“I know I’m doing a good job when both sides are angry at me,” he said.

Reyes said the bill would ensure “individual Americans’ right were protected” in regard to government surveillances programs aimed at foreign targets. He also said it would give the U.S. House the footing needed to stand against the Bush administrations policies. ...

It seems everyone is asking her to drop out. There is still the tiniest chance she can win so she will stay in until the numbers stay otherwise. Everytime the Clintons slam Obama, their negatives go up.
Obama has to target McCain on exiting Iraq by getting others involved. McCain is very vulnurable as the civil war intensifies and more people are killed.

Obama will need someone to attract those who support Hillary because of her gender. But there are other women officeholders just as much and even more qualified than Hillary to be VP who won't bring poisoned baggage, nor a poisoned knife for Obama's back.

As for joining the two campaign organizations, Obama's is so well run that it would hurt it to merge with Hillary's sputtering money eating machine.

You men do have senses of humor at times.

Yes, I've seen people want to claim many things, regardless of truth and reality. It hasn't stopped you or others in the past, and it won't stop you in the future.

Oh, you mean, kinda of like this story on mydd.
. You all do need the back and forth. When there's no counter voice here, he go search and bring it back to work up the rest.

Clinton sounds ready to throw down over MI and FL, all the way to the convention. The thing is, she may have an opening to go there.

Consider this, with the FL and MI delegates counted... Now, some of you immediately are wound up with just the thought but spare us from flipping out in the comments. Show me if my math doesn't add up, or if I'm missing something, but don't get worked up.

Including MI & FL, Clinton is only behind in pledged-delegates by 46-56 delegates, which could be halved in Pennsylvania alone. 46 is the number going off of DCW, but 56 is what I got when using the Obama counting of pledged delegates, and adding in the 67 Obama got from FL and the 178 that Clinton got from FL and MI, that results in a 1485-1429 difference of delegates. DCW has a 1473 to 1427 margin. I imagine that 46-56 number gets updated a bit up and down with further final results coming in from the previous contests. It also should be noted that there are, in addition, 55 uncommitted delegates from MI, and 31 delegates still aligned with Edwards.
